The Flower-Filled Roots of May Day

The Flower-Filled Roots of May Day

Did you know the tradition of giving flowers on May 1st—May Day goes back centuries? In many parts of the world, it was a way to welcome spring, with people leaving small baskets of flowers (sometimes secretly) on neighbors’ doors. The gesture was meant to spread joy and good fortune as warmer days arrived. While the tradition has faded in some places, it’s still celebrated with festivals, flower crowns, and dancing around the maypole in parts of Europe and the U.S.

Printing Quiz

If a printer mentions “Knockout,” what they really mean is…

A. A term you might use when someone looks amazing in new headshots

B. A design element that removes the background color underneath

C. What happens in round three of a championship boxing match

Answer: B
In printing, a “knockout” is when an object—like text or a logo—knocks out the background color behind it, meaning the background doesn’t print in that area. It helps keep colors crisp and designs legible.
